Some of the major states that will go to polls in 2023 are Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Telangana. These states have a combined total of 833 assembly seats and 107 Lok Sabha seats. The current ruling parties in these states are Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh, Indian National Congress (INC) in Rajasthan, and Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) in Telangana.
The 2023 elections will also be the first assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370 and the bifurcation of the state into two union territories in 2019. The Supreme Court has directed the Election Commission of India to hold elections for the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly by September 30, 2024
