The Uttarakhand tunnel rescue was an extraordinary operation that saved 41 workers who were trapped in a collapsed tunnel for 17 days. The workers were working on a road project in the Himalayan state of Uttarakhand when a landslide caused a section of the tunnel to cave in on 12 November 2023. The rescue team faced many challenges, such as the complex geology, the narrow space, and the risk of further collapse. They used various methods, such as excavators, drills, and manual mining, to reach the workers and provide them with oxygen, food, and water. They also sought help from experts from Australia and local "rat-hole" miners. On 28 November 2023, the rescue team finally managed to break through the last layer of rock and pull out the workers one by one through a pipe. The workers were taken to a hospital for medical check-ups, but none of them were seriously injured. The rescue was hailed as a miracle and a testament to the courage and resilience of the workers and the rescuers.
